GB3HN (The Hitchin 70 cms repeater)

STATUS REPORT FOR July 2005.

28th July: GB3HN is back. Fault was caused by over voltage trip on power supply.

2nd July: GB3HN is currently off air pending a fault that developed during a recent thunderstorm.

STATUS REPORT FOR 19th January 2002.

The filters that were put in to the repeater system back in November were removed.

The system comprised of a notch filter and a band pass for the receiver.
And a band pass for the transmitter.

On Saturday Don and myself installed a 3X notch filter in the receiver path and the storno duplex filter in side the repeater box for the Transmitter.

The results for the upgrade are as follows.

The Transmitter filter at 433.275 MHz has a loss of 3.33db.

And at 434.875 MHz has a loss of 58.52db

The Receiver 3x notch filter at 434.875 MHz has a loss of 0.33db.

And at 433.275 MHz a loss of 44.67db.

The receiver sensitivity was 0.8 uV, but when the transmitter was on the sensitivity went down to 1.2 uV.

With the new filters fitted the sensitivity is now 0.6 uV with the transmitter on or off.

The next problem is to increase the sensitivity of the receiver to get near the 0.3 UV, to do this we will need to replace or upgrade the front end.

STATUS REPORT FOR 17th NOVEMBER 2001

The 12.5 kHz I.F. was not changed as Brian unable to attend.

  1. The receiver sensitivity was checked and a figure of 0.321uV was recorded.
  2. There is no problem with inter-modulation between receiver and transmitter.
  3. The transmitter power output is 14 Watts.
  4. The bottom aerial ( TX ) has a slight VSWR this is possibly due to the proximity of the mainmast, but the top aerial ( RX ) has no VSWR at all.
  5. With the PYE filter, a notch filter was put in to the RX feeder to help with the de-sense problem.
  6. The TX feeder has one PYE filter fitted.

The repeater will need more filtering fitted, Don has given me 3 notch filters, and a duplex filter from one of the spare repeaters to see if I can set them up for later use.

I would like to take the opportunity to thank Steve G4NEA and Peter 2E1CRK for the testing which took place later on in the day, and specially to Don ( G4LOO ) for supplying the test equipment and coffee.
